About the Artist
Raina Gentry was born in Los Angeles, California in 1965. Raina's passion for art started early in life, but after high school was set aside for many years. In 1990, she moved to Arizona to attend Prescott College and received her BA degree in Environmental Studies. After graduation Raina made her living as a outdoor instructor / guide, and taught rock climbing at Prescott College from 1996-2000. It was in the year 2000 that she realized her true passion was art. Raina then went back to school at the University of Arizona in Tucson and received her degree in Studio Art in 2002.
Raina's artwork incorporates studies in printmaking, collage, painting and life drawing. Most works are mixed media, although Raina also creates larger pieces in oil on canvas. Her work is a peek into the deeper recesses of her consciousness. It reflects her thoughts and feelings about the many issues that concern her as a woman, as a liberal, and as a spiritual being. Raina uses the human form, and complex layering in her work to depict the beautiful, as well as the repulsive aspects of the world we live in.
Raina now lives in Prescott with her partner, focusing on her artwork and operating her business, "Walls of Pompeii," specializing in decorative painting and murals.
