Patrick Lincoln

Digital Media Arts

About the Artist

The Work:

All the works of Patrick Lincoln begin with a 35mm photograph he has taken. After developing and printing the photo is then scanned into his computer and manipulated by digital technology, sometimes in, literally, hundreds of ways. Because the original piece of art exists only as electrical charges on a magnetic disc, Patrick chooses to present almost all of his work as signed, numbered limited editions. Finished pieces are produced by utilizing cutting edge technology in the fields of computing, digital reproduction and printing, along with archival quality inks, canvas, and papers.

The works range from landscapes to portraits and figurative to semi-abstract and psychedelic with a bit of whimsical for balance. Impressionist and expressionist influences are strongly present in the work and hints of surrealism and Dadaist touches can be seen. Patrick's work hangs in galleries in Arizona, in the lobby of the Marriot Hotel in Prescott, Az. and in private collections across the U.S. Patrick has been an outsider to the university and commercial gallery genre but, does admit to having enrolled in design, drawing and art history courses at Wichita State University in his college years and feels that this did not adversely affect his work.

Personal History:

Born in texas and raised in the Southwest, Patrick's family lived in 14 towns, cities and ranches before he was 13. Leaving the Southwest at the age of 17 to join the Army, Patrick served as an R.E.M.F. in Vietnam and had his first experience with surrealism. Since then he has lived in 6 states and 27 towns, including L.A., San Francisco and Seattle.

While attending Wichita state University on the G.I. bill Patrick took art and photography classes while majoring in good times and taking a year off here and there to punch cows in Texas or work as a butchers scullion on a passenger liner bound for Hawaii and the Orient. Due to such extracurricular activiies, it took ten years for Patrick to emerge from the educational system aaas a registered Nurse. He worked mostly in critical care units, off and on, for 15 years. In between nursing jobs, Patrick has owned a print shop, a stained glass studio and the only grocery store in Roaring Springs, Texas.

Patrick is also a poet of modest but firm renown, having published two chapbooks of poetry. He has won awards in both national and international poetry slam competitions.
